Just in time for Fall’s bounty, Franklin Square Market’s studio kitchen classes kick off with a back-to-basics class taught by Chef Annette Tomei.
Even if you’ve been cooking for years, chances are you’re still not as confident as you’d like to be when it comes to your knife skills. Most home cooks aren’t, but you can still learn the “right way,” which will lead to more enjoyable and efficient kitchen experiences.
Join Chef Annette as she guides you to a better understanding of your kitchen knives and teaches you how to slice, dice, and chop like a pro. You’ll learn knife safety, how to choose the correct knife for the job, classic French cuts and shapes (chiffonade, julienne, battonet, et al.), and how to organize your ingredients for maximal kitchen prep.
Joining the class will be special guest John Reardon, owner of gourmet kitchen shop Compliments to the Chef. John is a skilled knife sharpener, and included in your ticket price is a complimentary sharpening of a knife from your home collection.* In class, John will demo knife honing using a steel for those who want to keep their knives sharp at home, and share his knife brand wisdom with the group.
This hands-on class is limited to 20 students. Home cooks of all levels are welcome.
*Bring your knife into Compliments to the Chef (click here for store hours) for sharpening before the class; just show your ticket sale to redeem the offer. Or you can leave a knife with John at the beginning of class, and retrieve it beautifully sharpened by the time you leave. Just bring extras to work with to get the most out of Annette’s hands-on class.
